What is it?

The omniscout Portable is a small, portable GSM/GPRS - GPS based location, tracking, asset recovery and personal protection system. The omniscout Portable will determine and report the global location of any mobile asset, vehicle, person etc. in which or on whom the omniscout Portable is located with an accuracy of a few meters. The omniscout Portable is able to communicate its location and receive commands using the international (GSM/GPRS) wireless networks. These networks are used by most of the world's cellular communications companies.

The omniscout Portable’s compact size makes it one of the smallest devices in its category on the market today. The omniscout Portable has its own lithium ion battery that provides approximately 2-3 days of usage in low power mode. Optional accessories expand the omniscout Portable’s functionality and allow for seamless integration into larger applications. These include in-vehicle wiring kits, large capacity battery packs, waterproof cases and more.

The following are some of the possible applications for the omniscout Portable. This is not, in any way, a comprehensive list, since the unit can be used for many other purposes, wherever location, speed or other parameters of monitoring movement are required.

The omniscout Portable is controlled and reports through the omniscout Control Centre, an easy to use internet based interface. The user sets the unit parameters and determines what types of alerts they require, who the alerts are sent to and the actions to be taken once an alert is received. The omniscout Portable communicates through the GSM/GPRS Cellular system and, as such requires an active SIM Card and monitoring package.

How it works!

The omniscout Portable is an extremely successful and robust hybrid of two technologies: the Global Positioning System (GPS), and the GSM/GPRS wireless communications network.

The omniscout Portable uses the GPS satellite network to determine the exact location of the unit, and uses the GSM/GPRS wireless networks to communicate and pass this data on to the location-enabled enterprise system, or to send emails to the user's Internet enabled PC, BlackBerry, PDA or phone, or to any SMS compatible phone or other mobile device.

Most similar GPS tracking units suffer from an inherent GPS limitation where the satellite signal can be detected only if there is an unobstructed view from the tracking unit to the GPS satellites.

The omniscout Portable uses sophisticated and proprietary Adaptive Assisted GPS (AAGPS), enabling it to communicate with the GPS satellites even without a clear view of the sky, in many cases even from inside buildings.

The omniscout Portable is a one-piece self-contained unit that does not require additional or external GPS or cellular antennae. Equal in size to a very small cell phone, and weighing only 80 grams (2.8 ounces) the omniscout can be easily hidden in a number for locations, in a vehicle, or on a person.
